Next Halloween go as something really scary – a Data Breach.

Discussing Data Breaching is like talking about some creep breaking into your house and stealing your banking information and the Big Screen just before the playoffs.  But typically we do not blame you for losing your stuff, we blame the crooks.

Data Breaches you get penalized for not adequately protecting your stuff from criminals and you also are required to reimburse or protect anybody who had data under your control. That frankly looks like justice turned upside down to me.

A Data Breach can be a case of identity theft on a personal level or a case like Target where thousands of people are affected. In each instance the blame tends to go to the injured not the hackers who are after all the criminals. Why don’t you hear “Target hacked and people in China, or Nigeria or Russia  are arrested  and forced to pay restitution?”
